Few parents expect a diagnosis of deafness. Receiving the news that your baby or young child is deaf can be an anxious, confusing and stressful time for you and your family. You may have many questions – ‘how can I find the right nursery for my child?’, ‘will my deaf child be supported at school?’, ‘what technology is available for my deaf child?’, ‘where can I and my family go for support?’.

The Wandsworth Hearing Support Service is here to help you. We understand that families come in all shapes and sizes. We offer expert guidance, advice and support to parents, guardians, grandparents, siblings, anyone in a family with a deaf child. From diagnosis, through the school years, and into early adulthood, the Wandsworth Hearing Support Service is with you every step of the way.

After being referred to our service we will be in touch with you within 48hrs (often within the same day) to discuss your needs and how we can help. You can then access our wide range of services and support including:

  • Expert teaching and guidance from experienced professionals (including home visits; one-to-one  and small group teaching by teachers of the deaf)
  • Family support and counselling (for all family members)
  • Enhanced learning and after school classes (including Sign Language, first aid, music, cookery)
  • Activities for the whole family (including sibling support, family fun days, parenting courses, dads’ clubs, baby yoga and massage)
  • Information and resources (access to our comprehensive library and specialist state-of-the-art technology and equipment
