What we do (Overview of Services)

At the Wandsworth Hearing Support Service (WHSS), we believe a collaborative approach can help all deaf children and young people reach their full potential.

We work closely with professionals in the education and health sectors, plus many organisations that work with deaf children and young people, or have an interest in deafness and deaf culture. By offering expert training, sharing best practice, taking part in research and promoting resources, we aim to help transform the lives of deaf children and young people.

Our service supports families with children aged 0-25 years living in Wandsworth or at school in Wandsworth. However, our excellent reputation is known nationwide and we regularly provide training and consultancy for teachers and other professionals across London and the South East. We also maintain partnerships with UK-wide and overseas organisations.

Every school in Wandsworth has an allocated peripatetic teacher of the deaf and a large number of mainstream schools have soundfield systems. We offer all nurseries and schools in Wandsworth specialist training  in working alongside a teacher of the deaf, deaf awareness, and use of audiological equipment.
