Since then he has written eighteen novels, including The Man I Think I Know, selected as a World Book Night title, and Half A World Away, selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club. Warm, witty, and heartfelt, My Legendary Girlfriend is a story about life, heartbreak, and unrequited love.

Previously an Agony Uncle, Mike Gayle is a freelance journalist who has contributed to a variety of magazines including FHM, Sunday Times Style and Cosmopolitan. When you lived on… well, it wasn’t Stanhope Road, but that did make us laugh every time we went past Stanhope Street. He is hugely promotable, appeared at the Hodder roadshow and at the Edinburgh festival and is writing articles for press and magazines --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

And Gayle sure has been through a LOT of real-life heartbreak stories (he's a relationship adviser of some sort), so he surely knows what he's talking about. It’s very much about unacquainted love and putting that someone on a pedestal, so much so that it holds the other person back from getting on with their life. She's balancing, there are so many others with unbroken eyes as well, no cellulite afternoons, she is balancing, balancing on the edge of ugliness tonight, she is balancing. In retrospect, it’s not difficult to see how he would end up ‘saying’ something even more unsayable at a certain awards ceremony only a short while later. Much of the story takes place during conversations Will has with various people over the phone that weekend.

After graduating from Salford University with a degree in Sociology Mike moved to London with ambitions of becoming a music journalist. It was the lyrics, and the wild unfolding and perverted in both senses narrative that left us wondering in those more innocent times whether you were actually ‘allowed’ to say that. It's 1971, and just as everything is going gaudy and spangly, Doctor Who's black-clad nemesis with a saturnine countenance is very much up to no good. After that it’s all feeling and free-association, the verses wracked with desperate yearning (“let me in, let me come in”), the chorus a descent into relief – but sad, lonely relief, the girl now deserted, abandoned.

There’s Alice (who remembers his birthday), Simon (who doesn’t), Martina (the one-night stand), Kate (the previous tenant of his rented Archway fleapit) and of course Aggi - the inimitable Aggi. Over the three years of its existence we interviewed many bands and artists including: Smashing Pumpkins, The Cranberries, Pavement, Bill Hicks and Blur.Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the book, I still found the occasional part laugh out loud funny, I was still rooting for Will to sort his life out. The writing was good, and there were certainly moments that made me chuckle, but that alone was not enough for me to actually feel like I enjoyed the book. Luckily I got past my silly male ego and embraced my metrosexuality, and a good few years later and I'm one of Mike Gayle's biggest fans.

Over the course of a weekend we get to know his deepest, and often darkest, thoughts as he agonises over whether he will ever find a love like he had with his Legendary Girlfriend. He obsesses over her day and night, and beats himself up trying to figure out what he could've done differently. Anyone who's ever gone through a rough breakup - and let's face it, that's all of us - will find literary comfort food in this book. He still makes lists of each birthday present Aggi ever gave him, has gymnastic fantasies about a perfect reunion night with her, dwells on the first words she uttered to him. Will Kelly é o “sol” (muito ofuscado), em torno do qual tudo gira — a personagem protótipo de coração destroçado, que chegou a ser comparada por alguns, a uma Bridget Jones do género masculino. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. Am not sure about all the negative things said about this seller by other people,,, because my experience was completely different, totally positive.
