Dinosaur Tea Party
- Brand: Unbranded
Description
The whole idea behind this company is to take old games since forgotten and revamp them to the modern standard. The include things such as if the dinosaur is eating or drinking, what they’re wearing, the color of room they’re in, and whether they’re showing a tail, teeth, spikes, spots, or stripes.
Yes, it’s silly and quirky but when life gets a bit too serious this kind of game can bring some much needed levity. While we remove the quirk tokens when our son plays, when we play with our daughter we use them as it adds a nice challenge to the game. With 36 taps there’s plenty for the craft beer connoisseur, alongside a variety of other drinks from coffee to cocktails. Three special quirks that make it so you can’t be certain if the answer you were given is the correct answer or not; perhaps the dinosaur is trying to trick you! Otherwise, the other player discards their dinosaur card, turns the matching dinosaur tile face down, removes all trait tokens in front of them, and draws a new dinosaur card. Then for fun, they tossed in dinosaurs to take the place of the humans and visually rocked it out of the park!
With various identifying factors like glasses, pets, cups of tea and flowery adornments, there are plenty of questions to identify these reptilian partygoers.Kids will really have to use their critical thinking skills and hone their powers of deduction by learning to use the trait tokens, ask strategic questions, and interpret the answers. They can ask a yes or no question based on traits to any player or they can guess the identity of another player.
There’s something strangely satisfying about deducing that your significant other is a pancake eating velociraptor named Lloyd and it’s clear that Restoration Games really had fun with this title. Then, the players who identity was guessed, flip over the corresponding dinosaur tile, and draws a new identity. The other players indicate whether they're correct by dropping their sugar cubes into the dino teapot, which cleverly reveals if any of the guesses are wrong but not which ones. The inclusion of the trait tokens and matching iconography on dinosaur tiles was a smart design choice as it aids younger players as they try to piece together who’s who. If we don’t have a game you are looking for it please contact us and we will do our best to help you. If playing with more refined dinos who want a challenging game you can try the variant with a simple rule change: when a player answers “No” to an Inquiry, do not put down a token; only place a token when “Yes” is answered.
You can also spice it up a bit by using the quirks to add a little complexity, I only wish there were more of them. Here you’ll find all our top game recommendations so you and your family can play only the best games together! As mentioned previously, it's no replacement for heavy games like Scythe or Twilight Imperium, but it's a fun game as lighter fare between meals, or when you want to play with younger people. The first player to deduce everyone's name wins the game and is sure to be invited back for Sunday supper.
