Set in 1905, the story concerns a group of aristocratic women who acquire more epicurean tastes after drinking ox's blood as a cure for anemia.

Following a history of releases on VHS and DVD by Redemption, reasonable at the time but not particularly holding up nowadays in the hi-def era, Stateside company Kino have teamed with Redemption to thankfully remaster this (along with several other of the director's movies) in high definition - image quality jumps significantly on the Blu-ray, with strengthened colour schemes and wonderfully naturalistic detail without being excessively sharp; indeed, on occasions there is an authentic haziness during certain sequences.It's a shame, because color depth is surprisingly rich and subtle details like textures and fabric show a nice level of detail, while black levels are effective with touch-and-go precision.

When another group of ne'er-do-wells shows up, Lahaie takes a scythe to them, and as the prologue has already indicated, turn of the century French women were not quite as naive and innocent as most commonly believed.It becomes apparent that Eva and Elisabeth are awaiting the arrival of a posse of bourgeois females in the middle of the night for some sort of ritualistic meeting. One of Rollins better known films, Fascination opens with three lovely ladies in a barn, drinking the blood of an ox, which will apparently cure them of an anemic condition from which they all suffer from. Jaggedness along lines becomes very visible, especially against diagonal lines -- which becomes fairly prominent in the scythe scene.

The two women apparently have little to do during the day besides rolling around on the rug for an occasional lesbian dalliance, so this turn of events turns out quite unexpectedly for our antihero. From this strange opening sequence, we cut to a band of thieves fresh from a well executed bank robbery carrying with them a whole lot of loot, obviously the fruits of their labors. Black levels are solid and generally very strong and whatever softness shows up in the picture has always been there. The film is lacking impact and awfully paced with the camera panning up to the ceiling sometimes for no reason.This erotic horror film, set in 1905, tells the story of a thief who seeks refuge in a castle owned by two women, Eva and Elizabeth.
