About this deal

If you believe board game accessibility is important and can support our Patreon you'd be helping make sure the site can continue with this valuable work. While not without some problems, the game is loads of fun and filled with great Old West atmosphere.

Each arrow generates an arrow immediately when it's rolled; they have no further effect at the end of a round. None of it is particularly intense although when it’s coupled to the façade of the social deduction it can be surprisingly complicated. The game concludes when the sheriff is eliminated, in which case the renegade wins if he is the sole survivor. We gave it two and a half stars in our review, which is the MLU equivalent of a shrug and a vaguely puzzled look. Player identities are indicated only on cards, but the powers each player is dealt are pretty straightforward and they only rarely impact on the complexity of managing the dice.I’m not saying here it’s impossible to work out who has which roles, but rather it’s not fun to do it.

The Dice Game, the only player you can trust is yourself (unless you forget which role you have and accidentally sabotage yourself). I believe that any dice game succeeds or fails largely on the basis of whether it's exciting to roll the dice, and here Bang! If the last arrow is taken, the Indians attack and all players lose one hit point for each arrow they hold. Whenever a player rolls a green arrow symbol, they must immediately take an arrow from the center of the table, even if they choose to reroll the dice. It also works brilliantly as a palate cleanser in between longer games, playing at around 15 minutes on average.

Each player starts off being dealt a hidden role, with the Sheriff revealing themselves at the start of the game. The sheriff and deputies are trying to kill all the outlaws and renegades, the outlaws are trying to kill the sheriff, and the renegades are trying to kill everyone else. It reminds me slightly of the game 'The Resistance' which features a similar secret role mechanic, although this game is a lot less stressful and probably a lot more fun. At the start of the game, players each take a role card that secretly places them on a team: the Sheriff and deputies, outlaws, and renegades. It’s an okay way to spend your time if you don’t take it too seriously, but dammit – taking things too seriously is my only super power.

I have played this game at the end of a heavy game night, introduced it to family and played it during my lunch break with non-gamers.It’s not much of a game for spectators, which is a problem, but since you’re mostly done with a full go in about fifteen minutes it’s not something I’d particularly worry about. The cards and tokens too are really well designed, making all of the information easily understandable. I see what you’re saying, but the DG remains a great game for what it is, where as the card game has been bettered MANY times over.

It has player elimination but the game will be over quickly and it’s fun to watch the last few rounds play out. His foray onto the internet exposed him to the wonderful world of German and European games and now nearly all of his gaming time is devoted to this area of our hobby.

Throw in Indian attackers, variable players powers, dice and group of people wanting to have fun and you have Bang! The Bullet comes with a shiny Sheriff’s badge for the Sheriff, and it’s kind of unfortunate that there’s no similar thing for Dice Game owners. Players are dealt a secret card that indicates their relationship to other players, and save for the Sheriff this is not revealed to the table. Position around the table is often more important than specific die rolls, and that’s going to be a non-issue in most groups unless there’s a lot of moving around. The dice are chunky and substantial feeling, with large brightly coloured symbols that are easy to see from any distance.
