Description

The shift towards identity politics threatens to fragment society by dividing people into zealous tribes. If people no longer vote according to their values, such as an attachment to liberty, but by their identities, such as their faith, then democracy ceases to function. This handbook represents an important milestone in advancing an interdisciplinary understanding of identity. The chapters offer an accessible understanding of how people across cultures form an identity, how identity remains constant or changes over time, and how societal discourses shape subjectivity. This remarkable volume introduces a diverse array of perspectives, articulating the conceptual and methodological challenges facing identity studies.’

I just love this book! It is subtle and at times intense. Roberts builds tough resilient characters along with some wonderful family connections. I think this is a winner all around with the multiple aspects of romance, family, suspense, and crime tension. I could go on and on, but definitely put this one on your list! The narration by January LaVoy is outstanding, bringing the characters and their emotions to life. LaVoy's voice modulation and portrayal of different characters are impeccable, immersing me in the story and adding an extra layer of authenticity to the audiobook experience. Her nuanced performance perfectly captures the essence of the characters, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the story.

So the heroine Morgan was about as annoying as any I’ve read. If I have to hear about sangria (cringe!!!) or frog fountains again in my entire lifetime I will barf. Seriously that was not necessary. Also, this is a thriller? No it’s not. Nothing thrilling here especially when it comes to her “ladies”. Vomit. This debate, and its ramifications, serve as an example of how history, with a capital ‘H’, continues to move forward. Liberal democracy is not a fixed concept, and these challenges mean it will continue to evolve in ways we cannot yet foresee. This plot is addicting! Identity is unique and highly detailed, plus she ties in plenty of surprises that completely had me captivated. Our understanding of who we are shapes so much of how we feel and the way we act, especially when it comes to the matters of sexuality and gender. This is a helpful, honest and sympathetic guide for those looking for solid ground to stand on. Highly recommended! - Sam Allberry, pastor, author of Is God Anti-Gay? and What God Has To Say About Our BodiesI liked the grumpy sunshine aspect of her new relationship with Miles. And the dog, Howl is amusing. He won’t play fetch with Miles but he will with Morgan. Too cute. Trinity’s character is so strong and relatable, I immediately loved her from the beginning. Leonidas stole my heart right away. He’s everything you could want in a book boyfriend. Their story is beautiful and at times so emotional. The two of them are both battling with their own demons, but they begin to fight them together. The old political establishment, proposes Fukuyama, was built around an argument between liberty and equality. The Left looked to use the state to ensure that everyone got a fair deal, while the Right secured individual and economic freedoms. However, as the two principles converged into “middle-way” policies at the end of the 20th century, immigration and identities began to take centre stage in politics. The final section of the novel reveals the disorientation of each characters' sense of identity is initiated by a confusion of the other's identity.
