Finding Joy in Simple Pleasures: The bear and the rabbit often find joy in the simple things, reminding us to appreciate the little moments and find happiness in the present. Their adventures highlight the importance of embracing spontaneity, exploring new experiences, and creating treasured memories. The writing/editing was just a little bit weak. There were a few places it could've been tightened up, and at one point the text referred to Bear as "he" (she's female). But the story itself is so fun and funny, and the new friendship that forms as a result of the events in the book is heartwarming. I can't wait to see what adventures these two have next! Brer Rabbit and Ananse Stories from Africa (article) by Peter E Adotey Addo on AuthorsDen". Authorsden.com. Archived from the original on October 24, 2004 . Retrieved July 3, 2010. Many dog breeds are created specifically for hunting rabbits, including the Labrador, Beagle, Basset Hound, and the Bloodhound, and these dogs are quite skilled. That being said, almost any dog will chase a rabbit if they see one and will likely kill it if they can. If you have a pet rabbit, you will need to keep them separated from dogs at all times. Even if they look friendly, it can be dangerous to allow them to interact. Humans The cult film Coonskin, directed by Ralph Bakshi, focuses on a trio of characters inspired by the original folktales. Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox (renamed "Preacher Fox" in the film) all appear, and the elements of the stories are moved to a then-contemporary urban setting.

Uncle Remus and His Friends: Old Plantation Stories, Songs, and Ballads with Sketches of Negro Character (1892), containing 11 Brer Rabbit stories. A segment dedicated to the pair is featured in the 1956 one-hour television special Our Unsung Villains. What did the bear say to the rabbit when they stumbled upon a nightclub? “Let’s unleash our inner dancing beasts!”

Smith, Alexander McCall (1989). The Girl Who Married A Lion and Other Tales from Africa. Pantheon Books, NY. pp.185–89. Julian Gough is an award winning author of funny stories about serious things. He won the BBC National Short Story Award in 2007 (when it was the biggest prize in the world for a single short story). His “The iHole” was shortlisted for the one-off BBC International Short Story Award in 2012. He has also been shortlisted, twice, for the Everyman Bollinger Wodehouse Prize for comic fiction. Although Joel Chandler Harris collected materials for his famous series of books featuring the character Br'er Rabbit in the 1870s, the Br'er Rabbit cycle had been recorded earlier among the Cherokees: The " tar baby" story was printed in an 1845 edition of the Cherokee Advocate, the same year Joel Chandler Harris was born. [16] Ik vond het ook zeer leuk om te zien hoe ze verbaasd om zich heen keek, want ze is nooit wakker tijdens deze periode. Het was allemaal nieuw voor haar. For the last wish the bear thought for awhile and then said, "I wish that all the bears in the world, besides me, were female."The frog called for the two to stop. The frog said, "Because you are the only two animals I have seen, I will grant you both three wishes. Bear, you go first." The bear thought for a minute, and being the male he was, said, "I wish for all the bears in this forest, besides me, to be female." Anyway, it was a picture book about a nice, friendly, perfectly boring rabbit and a nice, friendly, perfectly boring bear. The forest is so enormous that the frog have never laid eyes on another animal before. But today, by chance a bear is chasing after a rabbit to have for dinner. It was the bear's second turn for a wish. "Well, I wish that all the bears in the next forest were female as well."

Now about the subject of this particular rabbit eating his own poo. As it turns out, there is firm truth or scientific fact behind this practice of rabbits. I know we're not going to change the rabbits from doing what they are designed to do, I just feel the presentation of this information a bit heavy and out of place in this form of children's book. In Sam Kieth’s The Maxx, the character Mr. Gone refers to Maxx as “Br’er Lappin” and indeed Maxx is worried if he removes his mask he will find he has a rabbit’s head beneath it. Both Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox make an appearance in the 2011 video game Kinect: Disneyland Adventures ( Disneyland Adventures in the 2017 remaster) and both can be seen near Splash Mountain in Critter Country. You couldn’t tell any of the animals apart: they all talked the same, and acted the same, and were nice and friendly to each other, until the book ended, or the reader died of boredom, whichever came first. Some stories were also adapted by Joel Chandler Harris (1845–1908) for white audiences in the late 19th century. Harris invented Uncle Remus, an ex-slave narrator, as a storyteller and published many such stories that had been passed down by oral tradition. He claimed his stories were "the first graphic pictures of genuine negro life in the South." [13] Harris also attributed the birth name Riley to Br'er Rabbit. [ citation needed] Harris heard these tales in Georgia. Very similar versions of the same stories were recorded independently at the same time by the folklorist Alcée Fortier in southern Louisiana, where the Rabbit character was known as Compair Lapin in Creole. It has been argued that Beatrix Potter based her Peter Rabbit tales on Brer Rabbit. [14] Cherokee parallels [ edit ]

It's the bear's second turn for a wish. "Well, I wish that all the bears in the next forest are female as well." At this point Rabbit enters the story since the snowman rolls down the hill in an "avalanche" and covers Rabbits hole in the ground. Arguments or discussions ensue but this rather tense relationship ultimately blossoms into a sweet friendship. After hearing the joke, I decided to draw it out in the form of a comic strip and pass it around the class for fun. My fellow 8th grade, like-minded classmates found it amusing enough to pass along my work outside of class.
