Description

How to Kill Men was an absolute treat to read, sending out American Psycho and Promising Young Women vibes.' NetGalley reviewer, being a vegan is totally fine with me, it's not how I live, but why ya gotta make me question what's in my meat so much?

In serious cases, we realise that a deranged mind, if not given the desired help, can cause serious damage and this book highlights that aspect. According to Charlie, “ You know your problem, Kitty Collins? Your heart is too big”, and “ I love how deeply you care about people.”. Is he right about her being a big-hearted, caring person? Why do you think the author included quotes from Jane Eyre and Little Women before the story begins? The waste amount of hidden feminism. Sorry, not my thing. At least not in this amount. Not all men are bad. Not all women are good and the other way around. Although the relatively small cast of secondary characters is not given much depth, they are skilfully used to drive and enrich the story's themes. She's really something else, isn't she? I expected something more Finlay Donovan style ('ups, I don't know how it happened' kind of thing). But this one's not joking around.

The casual, conversational writing style is paired with a satirical narrative that is both uncomfortable and entertaining in its use of dark humour and commentary on social issues. Vivid (sometimes gruesome) details and smooth transitions between current and past events also enhance the story and keep it engaging. Katy Brent has written a thrilling, if macabre - and as they say ‘darkly comic’, novel that channels the fear and hatred that many women feel about the casual misogyny and general cruelty of men to women. Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.
