Thank you to NetGalley, Random House and the author Ruth Jones for the opportunity to review this wonderful book. There’s a lot of warmth and comfort that comes with reading your work. Maybe I’m being biased because I’m Welsh… Firstly , each character was beautifully written , with their own complexities. Each character was realistic and I have fallen in love with Grace , she is such a strong woman and as a Welsh woman myself , I see a lot of my own grandmothers in her. All families have their problems. And most of them get resolved. But Grace’s problem is thirty years old. And she doesn’t have time on her side.

The author pens a beautiful story that includes an exploration of the family trees of the two leads, their character profiles, and maps of Billericay and Barry with key landmarks and key sights.

I know you’ve mentioned your mother but have you drawn from any other personal experiences in the book?Grace is about to turn ninety. She doesn’t want parties or presents or fuss. She just wants to heal the family rift that’s been breaking her heart for decades.

I loved the characters of Grace and Beca in particular. I did guess the Cissie reveal in advance, though. The talented Welsh performer would then decide to get into costume drama in 2008 as she worked on “Litle Dorrit and “Tess of The D’Urbervilles.Never Greener” by Ruth Jones is her debut novel that combines the tales of two marriages. One of these is a couple that has been enjoying their union while another is not having such a great time given that an old affair was rekindled and is not threatening to destroy everything they built. A wonderfully told story following 4 generations of Welsh women, with complex characters, complicated relationships and a glorious and beautiful ending. Elin Matthews (married to Greg) is Grace’s granddaughter. She is the Head Teacher of St Stephen’s High and mother to Beca.
