At first glance, we wondered if we were supposed to cut it into pieces and toss it into our washing machine. But that is definitely not the answer since this soap can ruin the washing machine. While there are plenty of laundry detergents available on the market, we don’t think you could make an apples-to-apples comparison of any of them to Zote Soap. Most laundry soaps are liquid, pods, or powder and are specifically formulated to work in washing machines, and this isn’t. It has totally different ingredients than other brands and stands alone as a product.You have to shred it up and mix it with a few other ingredients (baking soda, washing soda, and borax) before putting in the washing machine. Mix all ingredients together in a spray bottle (I prefer glass spray bottles). Shake well to mix before using.

If there’s anything that a stain remover should do really well, it removes stains. In our household test, we decided to start first with our toughest stains, since those are the ones that call for stain removers more often. Plus, after washing and drying our clothes, we couldn’t smell the Zout at all. Normally, we add extra products (like scent boosters, fabric softener, and dryer sheets), so we are used to laundry feeling pretty soft. But someone who doesn't usually add softeners to their laundry would be pleased with their clothes' texture using this laundry soap. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Zote soap on delicate or hand-wash-only clothes.Ingredients: Water (Aqua), laureth-7, caprylyl/myristyl glucoside (plant-derived cleaning agent), dimethyl 9-decenamide (plant-derived cleaning agent), citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, sodium citrate (plant-derived water softener), tetrasodium glutamate diacetate (plant-derived chelating agent), citric acid (plant-derived pH adjuster) After a run through the wash, the only stain that entirely came out was the butter. This isn’t to say that Zout had no effect on the other stains—just that it wasn’t able to completely remove them. While the stains were significantly faded, they were still very obvious. As far as the next-best performances went, Zout did a better job on the grass and pasta sauce than it did with the mud and the mustard. This could be because they were darker stains in the first place, or it could be that the ingredients in the triple action formula were able to better target the starches and proteins in the offending substances (more on that below). So now that we know why we should avoid traditional cleaning sprays, let’s figure out how to find safer ones! These are the things I look for in an all-purpose cleaning spray:
