I understand the need to cater to newcomers who might not know all the varied history of Dragonlance but for me, these info dumps were made worse by the fact it was all information I was already very familiar with. I’ve read other reviews that this version of Tas has been diminished compared to previous iterations, so I can’t speak to what he used to be like. I like the majority of them, but the books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the creators of the world of Krynn, are special.

There is a mix of old and new characters, and a story arc that leans on already-established lore while still managing to be an entry point. Mostly because they've been trying to undo the changes to the setting for the past couple of decades. So I would consider this a very middle-of-the-road entry; if you really love Dragonlance and the world it takes place in, check it out.

Perhaps, if I was still fourteen, I would have loved this novel and would have overlooked all its flagrant flaws. Like, it could have been summarized into four or five sentences and shoved into one of the discussions toward the end of the book, and the story would have been perfectly fine.
